Van Goph Landscape
Description: In this project, we were tasked with crafting our interpretation of Van Gogh's iconic "Starry Night." After delving into Van Gogh's life and artistic techniques, we applied our new knowledge to create our own vibrant landscape. We used many materials including construction paper, tissue paper, clear acrylic paint , oil pastels, crayons, and Sharpies. The focal point of the activity was mastering the element of line, inspired by Van Gogh's distinctive use of this artistic element. It turned out to be an enjoyable exploration of his techniques and a unique way to express our creativity.
Extension Activity: After students create their works of art, as a class we will have a gallery walk where students can display their Starry Night creations. I will encourage class discussions about the varied interpretations and techniques used. Students will also reflect on what aspects of Van Gogh's style were successfully incorporated in a short journal response.
